Denise Van Outen has 'too much self respect' to stay with cheating ex Eddie Boxshall

Denise Van Outen has revealed she had "too much self respect" to stay with ex-fiancé Eddie Boxshall after she discovered he had been messaging other woman in January.

The presenter, 47, said she was "heartbroken" after finding out Eddie, 49, had messages and pictures from other women on his iPad last November.

Denise, 47, who was set up on a blind date with Eddie by presenter Zoe Hardman in 2013, said she felt they couldn't salvage their relationship following the betrayal.

"I’ve got too much self-respect and I just can’t live like that, I felt like, in a few selfish moments, he’d ruined it. I couldn’t imagine it ever feeling the same," she told OK! Magazine.

"I believe everything happens for a reason, so I don’t really have any regrets at all, it just shapes you for the next part of your life.

"If anything, I wish I’d known how to get myself out of heartbreak a little bit more, it’s a horrible thing to be stuck in it, and I think when I was younger I didn’t do the right things."

Denise said that her daughter Betsy was devastated by the split.

Betsy was welcomed into the world back in 2010, and is the daughter of Denise and ex Lee Mead. She recently turned 12.

Explaining the "worst part" of the split was letting her daughter know, Denise explained how it: "tore me apart watching her cry while I tried to make her understand" in her new autobiography A Bit Of Me: From Basildon To Broadway And Back

As well as the split impacting on Betsy, it also impacted on Denise's new book.

Just as Denise was concluding her book, her split from Eddie meant that she had to rewrite part of it.

She said writing her book allowed her to be "very open about certain things" and explained how the process was a "cathartic" experience.

Reflecting on her time with Eddie and other relationships throughout her life the television presenter said she believes everything happens for a reason, and that she feels more equipped to deal with heartbreak now.

Denise and Eddie started dating back in 2014 and soon went on to become a power couple, appearing on Gogglebox a number times, and fast-becoming a huge hit with viewers of the Channel 4 reality programme.

It was on January 7, 2022 that the news of the couple's split broke, with Denise confirming the break up on social media.

She did so by sharing a sombre black and white snap of herself walking her dogs on the beach, Denise penned: "Over the past couple of months, there has been much speculation regarding my relationship with Eddie.

"It saddens me to confirm that we are no longer a couple. I had to make the difficult decision not to continue in our relationship.

"I will always treasure the good times we spent together, and the memories made.

"We ask that you please respect our privacy at this time, especially for our children."
