A mother has told a Queensland court she witnessed her son stab her daughter to death in the loungeroom of their home after the trio spent a night out together.
Dennis William Sore, 43, has pleaded not guilty to murdering his sister, Samantha Rose Bong, 49, at their family home in Townsville in February 2020.
On the first day of the trial, the court was played CCTV footage which showed the pair's mother, Veronica Sore, dancing with her daughter at the Centenary Hotel in Townsville earlier in the night.
It's alleged that just a few hours later, she was holding her daughter's head as Ms Bong lay bleeding on the floor of her loungeroom unit in Pimlico.
"He had that knife in his hand and was standing up hitting his sister with his right hand," Ms Sore told the court when she gave evidence.
“He did an awful thing to his sister.”
Ms Sore told the court she had been drinking with her daughter and her son at the hotel before the trio returned home in a taxi.
She told the court they began talking about "family things" and said Mr Sore wanted to know why Ms Bong had a different surname.
"Dennis didn't like the things I was saying but that's the truth," she said.
Ms Sore told the court her children had begun arguing.
"Dennis started talking about dirty things … I had to stand up to tell Dennis to behave himself, this is not his house," she said.
"He thought he was the boss, owned everything in that flat, he didn't own anything in there.
"He got a bit angry that's when he went into the kitchen … and he picked up that weapon, it was a knife."
Ms Sore told the court that Ms Bong had hit Mr Sore in the head with a bottle before he grabbed a knife.
"He blew up … he went a bit crazy," she said.
Ms Sore stood up in the witness stand to demonstrate how Dennis had allegedly stabbed Ms Bong six times.
"He started at the top where her heart is and he moved down her body," Ms Sore said.
The court also heard evidence from Ms Bong's former boyfriend, Steven Solinas.
He said he was asleep in the family home on that night.
He told the court he heard Mr Sore and Ms Bong arguing from another room and had heard plates smashing and a chair being broken.
Mr Solinas also told the court that when he came into the loungeroom sometime later he found Mr Sore and his mother sitting next to Ms Bong who was on the floor in a pool of blood.
He told the court Mr Sore had asked him to call an ambulance.
The court also heard from Mr Sore's brother, Gerald Sore, who said he had received a text message from Mr Sore on the night of their sister's death which read "I b (sic) killed Sam."
The trial continues.
