With the onset of monsoon, Delhi has been witnessing heavy rains over the past few days – drowning cars, turning roads to rivers and even taking lives. The collection of more standing water increases the number of cases of several mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue.
“Dengue is a viral disease, transmitted by the infective bite of a particular mosquito known as Aedes aegypti,” explains Dr Tushar Tayal, Consultant- Internal Medicine, CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram. “It occurs in two forms: classical dengue fever, also known as “break bone” fever and dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF) which is life threatening.”
