Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin intends to continue his experiment with using explosive midfielder Christian Petracca as a solution to the Demons' scoring woes.
Petracca spent most of his time in attack against St Kilda on Saturday night and kicked four goals in a match-winning display.
The Demons posted their biggest score in almost two months in registering a 12.7 (79) to 8.10 (58) victory at Marvel Stadium.
The tally came despite leading goalkicker Bayley Fritsch being sidelined with a foot injury and with livewire forward Kysaiah Pickett blanketed by Jimmy Webster.
"We need to find a few more avenues to goal and Christian is a big part of that," Goodwin said.
"He had the four shots tonight and he took every one of them."
Goodwin opted to use Petracca predominantly as a forward despite fellow midfield star Clayton Oliver's ongoing absence with a hamstring injury.
The Demons turned to the likes of James Jordon and Tom Sparrow in the middle alongside Jack Viney and Angus Brayshaw.
"Supply and entry hasn't been an issue for us and ability to win clearance in the last month hasn't been our issue," Goodwin said.
"Our issue has been our ability to hit scoreboard ... the last few weeks has been really challenging in that space."
Goodwin was pleased with the way Petracca linked with Jake Melksham (two goals) and Ben Brown (one) in attack against the Saints.
"It was just a bit more experience in the forward half of the ground to increase our ability to hit the scoreboard and build some efficiency," Goodwin said.
"Between the three of them, I thought they worked well together.
"It certainly wasn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a step forward and Christian was a big part of that.
"His demeanour and his attitude towards it, he's embraced every element within it and we got the best of Christian tonight."
Petracca's four goals matched his career-best tally, which he had achieved twice in his 166 previous games.
