Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries has been actively campaigning in Southern California, targeting key communities in an effort to regain control of the U.S. House from Republicans. Despite California being a Democratic stronghold, recent elections have seen the party losing House seats to Republicans, resulting in a shift in power. Jeffries, poised to potentially become the next House speaker if Democrats win back the majority in November, is focusing on picking up four GOP-held seats to secure control.

California is a crucial state in this election cycle, with five GOP-held seats being targeted by Democrats, the highest number in any state across the nation. Jeffries emphasized the significance of California in determining the outcome of the House of Representatives control.

Both parties are intensifying their efforts in California, with Republicans also actively campaigning to maintain and potentially expand their majority. Former President Donald Trump labeled California as a 'paradise lost' under Democratic leadership, rallying his supporters in the state. Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson was also present, attending events to support GOP candidates challenging Democratic incumbents.

In Orange County, Jeffries rallied support for Democratic candidate Derek Tran, who aims to become the first Vietnamese-American to represent the area. Tran is challenging Republican incumbent Rep. Michelle Steel. In another part of Los Angeles County, Jeffries mobilized volunteers to canvass for Democrat George Whitesides, who is running against Republican Rep. Mike Garcia.

Republicans remain confident in their candidates and message, particularly in Southern California where they have historically seen success. The race for control of Congress is heating up, with both parties vying for crucial seats that could determine the House majority and the speaker's chair.

Volunteers like Dave Guttman are actively engaging in door-to-door campaigning, reflecting the high stakes of this election. With the battle for House control intensifying in California, the outcome of these races will have a significant impact on the national political landscape.
