Democratic Rep. Brendan Boyle emphasized the potential power that Democrats could still wield in the House, even if they end up in the minority. Boyle highlighted that over the past two years, House Republicans have struggled to pass significant legislation without Democratic support. This dynamic, according to Boyle, provides Democrats with leverage to influence what gets approved.
Boyle pointed out that this leverage could be crucial in upcoming decisions, such as the debt ceiling, budget allocations, and the annual defense bill. Despite being in the minority, Democrats could strategically exercise their influence to impact the legislative agenda.
While Republicans have secured the presidency and potentially the Senate, the balance of power in the House remains uncertain as votes in several races are still being tallied. As of now, there are 23 House races where the outcome has not been officially projected.
