Democratic Lawyers Begin Vetting Process For Vice Presidential Hopefuls

U.S. President Joe Biden campaigns ahead of Nevada's Democratic presidential primary, in Las Vegas

Following Kamala Harris' selection as Joe Biden's running mate, the Democratic Party is now actively vetting potential candidates for the vice presidential position. This process involves a thorough examination of the financial, personal, and professional backgrounds of leading prospective candidates.

Among those asked to provide detailed information are North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, along with approximately 10 other elected officials. A team of Democratic lawyers, experienced in previous vice presidential vetting processes, is spearheading this effort.

The vetting process is not only happening behind closed doors but is also being conducted publicly. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Gov. Cooper recently participated in interviews, with Harris reportedly observing at least part of the conversations.

Simultaneously, the Democratic Party is actively seeking endorsements for Harris, with a strategic plan to secure a majority of delegates by Wednesday. This coordinated effort aims to demonstrate unity within the party and solidify support for the vice president.

The ongoing search for a running mate is a critical component of the larger strategy to secure the nomination and build momentum for the upcoming election. As the vetting process continues and endorsements pour in, the Democratic Party is focused on presenting a united front in the lead-up to the election.
