Garcia, who won the seat in a 2020 special election, graciously conceded defeat on Monday night. The district, located in the Los Angeles area, has historically leaned towards the Democratic party, with President Joe Biden winning by a margin of 12 points in the previous election.
Whitesides brings a wealth of experience to the table, having previously served as the chief of staff for NASA during the Obama administration. Additionally, he has held the position of CEO at Virgin Galactic, a prominent space tourism company. His background in both government and the private sector positions him well to represent the diverse interests of the constituents in the 27th District.
