Dementia risk could be lowered by everyday exercise and habits from walking to crafting

The risks of dementia could be lowered by ordinary activities like reading a book, doing yoga and spending time with family and friends, according to a study.

Researchers found that leisure activities - such as making crafts or playing sports - were linked to a reduced risk of dementia. According to the study, those who engaged in leisure activities had a 17% lower risk of developing the condition than those who did not engage in leisure activities.

Previous studies have shown the hobbies and behaviours that can lower cancer risks, but there is conflicting evidence about their impact on dementia. The review analysed studies that looked at the effects of mental, physical, and social activities and the risk of dementia.
