Oh, what could have been.
There’s always those ‘what-ifs’ that could have happened throughout NBA history that players and fans mull on over time.
For Bulls All-Star DeMar DeRozan, he could have become a member of his hometown Los Angeles Lakers last summer before the team opted to trade for Russell Westbrook instead.
But, a new potential ‘what-if’ from last offseason has surfaced from on The Draymond Green Show that could have landed DeRozan in Golden State.
Draymond Green on helping DeRozan last summer during free agency:
“What about this? What about that?” Green said. “So then the conversation started to like, ‘Yo, come to the Warriors.’ And you were like, ‘F–k, no, I’m not coming. I’m not coming to play with y’all.’ But, you come to the Warriors? We can win a championship if you come to the Warriors. He didn’t come.”
DeRozan, who ended up signing a three-year, $82 million contract with the Bulls, told Green that taking the minimum, regardless of being in a contending situation, was not an option.
“I mean, even when I called you, talking about ‘You should come to the Warriors,’ I wasn’t talking no minimum. A minimum!”
DeRozan teaming up with the team that won the 2022 NBA Championship without him? Yeah, good luck to the rest of the league with that one.
