A FLIGHT bound for New York from Edinburgh was scrapped after a crew member was arrested just minutes before take-off.
Delta Airlines scrapped the service half an hour before departure, leaving passengers stranded at Edinburgh Airport.
The airline confirmed passengers are being re-accommodated and is assisting Police Scotland with the ongoing enquiry.
It remains unknown why the man, 61, was arrested before the flight to JFK.
A Delta Airlines spokesperson said: “Delta confirms that one of its crew was taken into custody this morning at EDI Airport.
“Delta is assisting the authorities with their ongoing enquiries. Delta’s EDI-JFK flight has been cancelled and customers are being re-accommodated.
“We apologise to customers impacted by this cancellation.”
The airline runs daily flights from the Scottish capital to New York.
The Boeing 767 plane used can carry around 270 passengers.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Around 10am on Friday, 16 June, a 61-year-old man was arrested at Edinburgh airport in connection with the Railways and Transport Safety Act 2003.”
