Deliveroo praised for 'touching' gesture for those wanting to avoid Mother's Day

Mother's Day is just around the corner but not everyone will feel like celebrating the occasion.

This year, Mother’s Day falls on Sunday, March 27. The day can be particularly hard for children whose mums have passed away, for parents who have lost children themselves, or those struggling to conceive. There are a number of reasons why some people dread the day and the build up to it.

And as the day to celebrate mums draws nearer, many supermarkets and shops are sending out correspondence and newsletters detailing thoughtful product launches, afternoon tea events and more - all with mums in mind. This year, food delivery giant Deliveroo is aiming to help customers for whom it might be a sensitive issue.

The company has introduced a thoughtful email technique for shoppers wishing to avoid Mother's Day this year. In a recent email to customers on its mailing list, Deliveroo said: “Mother’s Day can be a difficult time, so if you’d rather not receive emails about it, we understand. Just hit the button below or click on the banner and we’ll make sure we don’t send you any reminders.”

The touching gesture has been praised on Twitter with one user sharing an image of the email and writing: “I wish more companies would do this, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day can be really difficult for some people especially those who have lost their parents. Especially when several companies spam you with so many emails leading up to the day. Thank you”.

A second said: “Amazing from @Deliveroo - Mother's Day has been a hard day for me since 2019 so this is touching” and another added: “This is the only company I’ve seen that has sent me this email and it’s so nice to see. It’s so upsetting getting constant emails about Mother’s Day. @Deliveroo.”
