Deliveroo and Just Eat insurance rules explained after police give delivery drivers six points and fine

Delivery drivers without business use insurance will never curry favour with Greater Manchester Police...

Officers from the force issued six points and a fine to several motorists who were committing the offence in the city centre on Saturday evening. So, if you're reading this and received a cold kebab from your local takeaway last night, maybe you now know the reason.

Outlining the level of insurance needed in the UK to work for the Just Eat online food order and delivery service, a statement on the company's website reads: "As a minimum, you are required to have 'business use' insurance to cover the use of food delivery and Hire & Reward cover. Additionally, were you to be involved in an incident whilst not adequately insured, your insurance company would not cover the costs incurred."

Deliveroo's website says: "As a Deliveroo rider you are covered by our insurance whenever and wherever you’re out on the road with us in the UK. This includes the whole time you’re online, as well as up to one hour after you go offline."

The police also caught a number or private hire motorists committing offences during a Saturday night patrol on Liverpool Road, including driving with numerous lamps out, exceeding the speed limit and not wearing their private hire licence as per the terms of their permit.
