The humble air fryer has quickly become one of the nation's favourite gadgets - and with good reason. While the fryers might have gained popularity as a cheaper alternative to oven cooking, many of us have loved testing out the many simple, no-fuss recipes they're perfect for.
From 'crispy and fluffy' jacket potatoes to delicious single portions of toad in the hole, there's no shortage of different meals to try. But if you've got a sweet tooth, you can also use your trusty fryer to bake a number of tasty treats.
One air fryer cookie recipe in particular has been taking the internet by storm.
Courtesy of @hey_renu the six minute recipe is perfect for anyone who loves oak cookies. Shared to Instagram by the popular creator, who is known for her vegetarian dishes and easy budget recipes, the quick snack looks sublime.
As Renu explains: "You need to try this delicious 6 minute chocolate cookie, easy single serve, eat it for breakfast, or serve with a scoop of ice-cream for a cheeky dessert."
Helpfully, she demonstrates how to bake the cookies in the video accompanying her viral post. Alternatively, you can follow the instructions below.
Ingredients
80g oats (1/2 cup)
- small banana should fill 1/3 cup
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp coconut oil or avocado oil
- 1 tbsp oat milk
- Handful chocolate chips
- optional 1/2 tsp cinnamon
Method
- Add all measured ingredients together in bowl
Form into a ball
- Flatten with spoon and make a round flat cookie
- Add more chocolate chips on top if you like
- Preheat air fryer and cook for 6 minutes on 180c, or oven for 10-11 minutes, rest for a few minutes
- Drizzle maple syrup if you like (this step is highly recommended by Renuu)
- Make a batch and freeze
The foodie's recipe quickly went viral with over 160,000 likes and several excited comments. One person praised: "Looks so lovely and gooey!" "I baked this today, and it was delicious!" said a second.
Meanwhile, a different commenter questioned how to ensure crunchy results. "Wondering if there's a way to make it more solid or crunchier. I don't like that gooey consistency with oats and stuff but the recipe does look good!" they wrote.
In response, Renu explained there's an easy fix. "I simply didn't let it rest enough and did drizzle a bit too much Maple syrup (as it runs out too fast) however you can bake it at 8 minutes and then let it rest and it can be crispier," she replied.
