Deli mob 'acid' thug survived gang war meat cleaver attack

An underworld enforcer who attempted to blind people with acid previously survived a horrific meat cleaver attack.

Jonathan Gordon, who belonged to the 'Deli mob' street gang, carried out acid attacks on behalf of an underworld boss. The criminal who ordered the attacks through the EncroChat network has not yet been named.

Gordon, who used the Encro handle 'ValueBridge' was responsible for one acid attack that left a St Helens man without sight for months. The dad's sight was later restored by medical experts.

Last week Judge David Aubrey told Liverpool Crown Court that Gordon’s "ruthlessness knew no bounds." Gordon charged £6,000 for acid attacks and £10,000 to blind the victim.

The ECHO can now reveal that Gordon survived a horrific attack with a meat cleaver ten years ago. Gordon was attacked by gangland rival Andrew Redmond, who repeatedly hacked at him with a large meat cleaver in the street.

Dramatic CCTV later emerged which showed Redmond slashing Gordon with a cleaver while other thugs kicked him. In 2013 Liverpool Crown Court heard how the fight began in Tushan's newsagents on Hawthorne Road in Bootle.

Gordon was seen arriving at the scene, and was then thrown to the floor by Redmond. David Birrell, prosecuting, said: “Redmond can be seen to approach the shop, he drags Gordon from the shop where he fell to the floor. At that point Mr Redmond rains blows down on him, about 15 times mostly to his head, back and neck.

“It was a ferocious attack, so ferocious that the defendant’s arm went limp and he struck his own arm with the cleaver causing himself serious injury.”

Gordon suffered cuts to his head, ears, legs and neck and his left arm had tendons and bones severed. Redmond was jailed for 12 years and nine months for the attack on Gordon which took place in October 2012.

Local sources told the ECHO the fight was linked to a turf war between rival of gangs over the sale of drugs in the area. Gordon, who pleaded guilty to affray, was jailed for eight months. The judge reduced his sentence due to the severity of his injuries.

Over recent weeks Liverpool Crown Court heard how Gordon was involved in a wave of astonishing violence from 2019 to 2020. The mystery crime boss wanted Gordon to throw acid on a man in the Blackpool area.

The instruction were that the victim “needs a good litre on him." And Gordon received instructions to "double the dose" and "cook" an intended victim in the Warrington area.

Last week Gordon, 34, was found guilty of three counts of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm; two counts of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life, and one count of conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life. The north Liverpool man was found guilty of the charges following a trial at Liverpool Crown Court.

Gordon's associate Dylan Johnston, 27, was found guilty of conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life, and conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm. Stephen Anthony Wissett , 28, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm.

The three men will be sentenced later this month.
