NEW DELHI: A police team that rushed to the spot where a two-month-old was found dead and stuffed into a broken microwave oven at a Chirag Dilli house was told by the neighbours that they heard the mother of the child thrashing her elder child, a four-year-old son, around 3pm.
“They said that when they went to check on the woman and her son, they found that the woman was not responding. The woman's husband and other members of the family were at a grocery shop which they run close to the house. The neighbours then alerted the family members and all of them broke open the door," said a senior police officer.
The officer said that when the neighbours went in, they found the woman lying on the floor, unconscious. She was then rushed to a hospital. Meanwhile, the family members realised that the infant was missing.
"When the woman was asked about her daughter she didn't give any satisfactory response. On this, a search for the daughter was then made and finally when a storage room on the terrace of the house was searched, the infant was found wrapped in a cloth, stuffed in an old microwave oven," said the officer.
A crime and forensics team also visited the spot for a detailed inspection. Senior officials said multiple teams have been formed to work on the case. The microwave oven in which the child was found has also been seized for inspection along with other articles from the house.
One of the family members stated that the mother of the child wanted a son. "She wasn't happy having given birth to a daughter and was frustrated about it. We suspect that she might have killed the child," the police officer said.
Locals said the incident sent shockwaves across the residential area with hundreds of people gathering near the house to watch the developments as multiple teams of police kept coming in.
