As per official records, 1,777 people were reported missing in January 2026, a number lower than the monthly averages recorded over the past two years. Delhi reported a total of 24,893 missing persons in 2024, translating to a monthly average of 2,074, while 24,508 cases were recorded in 2025, with a monthly average of 2,042. In comparison, January 2025 saw 1,786 missing-person reports, slightly higher than this year’s January figure.
The data comes amid public concern sparked by figures from the first half of January 2026, which suggested that an average of 54 people were being reported missing every day in the capital. Addressing these concerns, the Delhi Police clarified that missing-person reports often include short-duration absences and precautionary cases, and do not necessarily indicate long-term disappearances.
