New Delhi: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has reported a increase in cases related to respiratory issues, particularly asthma and COPD allegedly due to Delhi air pollution.
Those turning up at the hospital are complaining of severe symptom escalation, and many have required hospitalised, said officials. Delhi’s AQI has become a serious concern for those living in the national capital as they are constantly complaining of itchiness in their throat and redness in eyes.

Doctor appealed
Addressing the issue, Dr. Madan appealed to those with respiratory conditions to limit outdoor exposure, avoid strenuous activities, and always keep inhalers along to manage asthma symptoms effectively. Meanwhile, he said, an immediate action has to be taken to curb the pollution.
Delhi government
For a couple of months, the AQI of Delhi has remained in the range of “very poor” category, with a relief on paper when it slightly improves to poor quality. The Delhi government on Monday submitted an action report to the National Green Tribunal. It stated that the air quality index showed "good days" between January and October in Delhi has risen from 157 in 2018 to 201 in 2024.

"With consistent efforts from stakeholder departments, good days have increased from 157 in 2018 to 206 in 2023 from January to October. This year till October 29, there have been 201 good days," read the report. It should be noted that the Delhi government has already invoked the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage 2 on October 22.
On Thursday, the AQI stood at 367.
