NEW DELHI: Delhi’s maximum temperature dropped by two degrees on Monday while the mercury remained above normal level.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature was recorded at 36.6 degrees Celsius, six notches above the season’s average — the highest for this year against 38.3 degrees Celsius a day earlier — at Safdarjung observatory. The minimum temperature on Monday was recorded at 20.5 degrees Celsius, four notches above the season’s average, against 21.2 degrees Celsius a day earlier.
Meanwhile, at a maximum temperature of 38.4 degrees Celsius, Siri Fort (Sports Complex) was the warmest area, followed by Pitampura (38.3) and Najafgarh (38.1). On Tuesday, the maximum and minimum temperatures may hover around 36 and 20 degrees respectively, weather office said.
“There are chances that the maximum temperature will drop for the next two days due to strong winds but the temperature will soon rise,” said Mahesh Palawat, vice-president of meteorology and climate change, Skymet.
Meanwhile, the air quality of the city remained poor. On Monday, the AQI was recorded at 271 against 242 a day earlier.
