I am happy to defend my title here at the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon. As always, Sunday’s race was a reflection of India’s spirit and I was happy to see the overwhelming turnout of participants. It shows that we have moved on from the struggles of pandemic.
When I first took part in the Delhi Half Marathon in 2017, I was not sure that I would become an athlete one day. In my first race, I ran without expectations and ended up finishing third. The following year, I won silver. In
2020, I won the title in record time.
It has been quite a journey so far and I am happy with the way my career has shaped up. Even though marathon is not my main event, I enjoy participating in the events.
This time, unlike in 2020, I was not able to train specifically for the half marathon. After the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, I was busy in other engagements and have not been able to train to clock a faster time. Yet, my focus was to do well and run the best that I could.
Usually, this race happens in the month of November and hence, it’s a lot conducive for international runners. We are quite used to this weather and I was just focused on getting across the finish line first.
