New Delhi: The Delhi government on Monday ordered a complete ban on all kind of firecrackers until January 1, 2025.
"In view of the increasing pollution in winter, a ban has been imposed on the production, storage, sale and use of firecrackers from today till January 1, 2025. Delhi government issued instructions regarding the ban. Request for cooperation from all Delhiites," Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai posted on X. The minister also shared a notice issued by the Delhi pollution board regarding the ban.

The letter, addressed to the Commissioner of Police, directed the Delhi Police to implement the ban on firecrackers.
In the last week of September, Gopal Rai said the ban on firecrackers would be enforced once a notification was issued.

According to Central Pollution Control Board data, the air quality in Delhi worsened from the 'moderate' to the 'poor' category on Sunday. It still remained in the 'poor' category on Monday afternoon as the Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 228.
