NEW DELHI: A native of Bihar, 14-year-old Ajit (name changed) dropped out of school and came to Delhi to work and support his family. However, he was among 15 children who were rescued from child labour during a raid held recently. After his medical examination was conducted, Ajit even tested positive for Covid-19.
The teenager, who was working in a mattress selling shop, said he did not know he was infected with the virus. “I came to work here with my uncle. Our financial situation is not good. My uncle said I can earn well in Delhi and hence, I accompanied him. I have been working here for the past four-five years,” Ajit told the counsellors after his rescue. He is now in the isolation ward of a children’s home in Lajpat Nagar.
