Dejan Lovren makes savage dig at Bernardo Silva for skipping Mohamed Salah 'waiting list'

Dejan Lovren has mocked Bernardo Silva's controversial challenge on Mohamed Salah, claiming he was trying to steal his shirt.

The former Liverpool defender has made light of a tussle that went unpunished and eventually led to Jurgen Klopp being sent-off due to his protests. Salah was running down the touchline in the final minutes as Bernardo attempted to dispossess him.

The Manchester City man eventually managed to do so, but only after a shirt pull had seen Salah fall to the ground, clearly expecting a free-kick. Anthony Taylor chose not to blow up, leaving many inside the ground fuming, but Lovren has seen the funny side, suggesting the Portuguese playmaker was after the Egyptian's shirt.

Lovren posted an image on social media of the challenge with the caption: "Bernardo, there is a waiting list for his shirt. I am still waiting for mine." The Croatian and Salah were close friends during their time as team-mates before the centre-half left for Zenit St Petersburg in 2020.

Bernardo's challenge on Salah left Klopp questioning how a foul was not given, before apologising for his reaction. He said: "I lost it in that moment and that is not OK, but I think a little bit as an excuse I would like to mention, how can you not whistle that foul? How on earth is it possible? And I wish I could get an explanation.

On his red card Klopp added: "It’s about emotion, of course. So, of course, red card, my fault. I went over the top in the moment, I don’t think I was disrespectful to anybody but when you look at the pictures back – I know myself for 55 years that the way I look in these moments is already worth a red card. I know that, who cares what I say?"

Bernardo, alongside his City teammates, was left to lament their disallowed goal, which had put them 1-0 ahead in the second-half. Phil Foden's strike was ruled out for a foul by Erling Haaland, but the Portuguese star felt the referee failed to show consistency.

He told Sky Sports : "What we expect from the referees is consistency in the decisions and when you go through a path of not whistling little contacts throughout the whole game, you need to keep those decisions and keep going that way.

"If you want to whistle all of them, whistle all of them, but if from the beginning of the game you're not - he was letting us play which is good - then if there's a goal you cannot whistle that soft one. If you want consistency from the referee you cannot change just because there's a goal and just because it's a tough decision, you have to make the tough decision and keep the goal."
