The world's oldest continuing mounted law enforcement unit has honoured its horse force with a memorial wall and commemorative garden tribute.
The NSW Police mounted unit has been in service since 1825, moving to the current location in Redfern 116 years ago.
As part of new additions, the location is now home to the mounted unit memorial wall, to be adorned with the names of loyal service horses that devoted their lives to the state.
"We are justifiably proud to honour our Troop Horses: they've been serving and protecting the people of NSW for 198 years," Deputy Commissioner Mal Lanyon said.
The wall also acknowledged the sworn and unsworn officers of the unit who worked closely with the horses every day, dog and mounted units commander Superintendent Julian Griffiths said.
The stables and buildings of the complex have also been refreshed to modernise the historic location as part of a $1 million renovation package, their first upgrade in 27 years.
The opening ceremony included a blessing by NSW Police chaplain Reverend Suzanne Avery and tours of the stable and mounted unit display.
Two horses that died since the renovations began, Martin and Hero, will feature on the wall along with the names of 25 other serving horses since 1975.
