Declan Rice shows Manchester United fans why Casemiro comparisons are wide of the mark

After Declan Rice's performance against Iran for England, many fans got a little carried away with their praise for the midfielder. Taking aim at favourites Brazil, some even suggested that the West Ham player would get in a team ahead of Manchester United's Casemiro.

TalkSport also jumped onto this praise. Speaking with Jamie O'Hara, Jason Cundy made the claim that Rice was better than the 4-time Champions League-winning midfielder.

Speaking about the two teams and their qualities, O'Hara asked " Casemiro ahead of Rice?". Cundy replied "That's a tight call. I think Rice is one of the most sought-after midfielders."

O'Hara incredulously replied: "Oh come on [he's] won four Champions Leagues'. Cundy went on: "I don't doubt that but, Declan Rice plays for West Ham. You're telling me if you put Declan Rice in the team that Casemiro played in, are you saying that weakens them. Come on."

O'Hara then definitively asked the question: "Does Declan Rice get in Brazil's team?" and Cundy replied: "I think he does."

Of course, after England's 0-0 draw the mood is much more sobering and Cundy's comments have been called into question by many fans. Casemiro was excellent in Brazil's 2-0 win against Serbia, dominating the midfield and also contributing heavily to the team's attack whereas the West Ham midfielder was mostly anonymous.

And Brazil fans have made it very clear what they think on social media:

It is still early in the tournament so there could be some surprises, however, it will take a massive step up in quality from Rice if he is to usurp Casemiro's global reputation.
