Philip Joseph BENT

Sadly on August 5th, Philip of Newton Heath, passed away in hospital aged 71 years. A devoted and much loved Dad, Grandad and Brother. A dear Brother-in-law and Uncle who will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by his family and many friends.

On Thursday August 25th, Philip will be received into The Catholic Church of St Patrick's, Livesey Street, Collyhurst for Requiem Mass at 12.30pm and will be laid to rest at St Joseph's Cemetery, Moston.

Steve BRIDGE

On August 5th, peacefully in hospital surrounded by his family, Steve aged 71 years. Beloved husband of Shelagh and much loved dad of Tim. Retired maths tutor and teacher from Birley High School, Chorlton High and Our Lady's Blackley.

Dorothy Joan CALLWOOD

Passed away peacefully and gracefully at the The Dell Care Home on 2nd August, aged 97 years. A loving wife of the late Joe. Precious mum to Ann (deceased), Rodney, David, Susan and Janice.

Devoted Gran to Pauline, Lee, Joanne, Martyn, Raymond, Peter, Lindsey and Adam. Great-Gran to Lawrence, Lola-rai, Alfie, Freddie, Sophie and Jessica, and a dear friend to many. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Eugene Francis MULROY

Passed away peacefully at his home in Prestwich, surrounded by his loving family. Eugene will be missed so much by his loving wife Mary, all his children, grandchildren, family and friends.

Josephine (Josie) FENNEY (nee Howarth)

Josie passed away in the company of her husband and family on Wednesday 3rd August at Oldham Royal Hospital.

Following many years living in Prestwich she had been living in Alston, Cumbria for the past 24 years. She was a State Registered Nurse at Manchester Royal Infirmary and following the birth of her children she returned to work as an Occupational Health Nurse at East Lancs Paper Mill, Carborundum and the HSE.

She was the beloved wife of Tony Fenney, much loved Mother of Marie, Brendan, Louise and Robert, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Requiem Mass to be held at Our Lady of Grace RC Church, Prestwich on Wednesday 24th August at 12 noon, followed by Cremation at Blackley Crematorium at 1.15pm. Sylvia FLETCHER

(Morpeth late of Bramhall, Stockport) Passed away peacefully on 11th August 2022, aged 82 years. Beloved wife of the late Kenneth, much loved mum of Jane and Jon, beloved aunt of Sandra. Will be greatly missed by all. Family flowers only, donations in lieu to Kidney Care UK.

Janet Elizabeth HAMNETT

Passed away peacefully in her sleep on 31st July 2022, aged 62 years. Cherished wife to the late Martin, loving mum of Hazel, Mark and Tim. Much loved Granny of James, Tyler, Keelan, Oscar and Isobel. Survived by her parents Peter and Beryl.

Beryl KUSE

Peacefully in a nursing home, of Northenden, Beryl aged 88 years. Dearly loved Mum of Mark, much loved Mother in Law of Inna. She will be sadly missed by all her family and friends. Peter Anselm MAINKA

Passed away on 3rd August 2022 at Fairfield Hospital in Bury. Father and Brother leaving behind a grieving family and friends. Was a retired police officer and lifelong fan of Oldham Athletic. Loved life.

Jean MARSDEN

Jean passed away peacefully at St Ann's Hospice on 3rd August 2022. A much-loved sister of the late Joseph. A dearly missed Aunt of Shirley and Alex.

Jean will sadly missed by her great nieces and nephews James, Sarah, Ryan, Emma and Oscar and her Great great nephews Max, Alex and Arthur together with relatives and friends.

Maureen Margaret MARSHALL (nee Butler)

Maureen died peacefully on 3rd August 2022, aged 82 years. The much loved wife of the late Bernard, mum of David, Michael and Ian and their respective partners, loving grandma to Michael and Anna and sister to Nora, Mike, Kevin and Joanne.

Maureen will be so sadly missed by all her family and many friends. The funeral service will be held at St.Paul's Church, Newton on Thursday 25th August at 12 noon followed by Committal in Dukinfield Crematorium.

Marc MELHUISH

Passed away peacefully on 1st August 2022, aged 54 years. Cherished husband of Jaquelyn, loving Son of Marsha and James. Much loved Brother, Uncle, Son-in-law and Brother-in-law. Marc will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.

Leslie SMITH

Sadly on Sunday 7th August. Les of New Moston passed away aged 70. Loving dad to Louise and Peter. Devoted grandad to Zahrah and Aadam. Beloved ex-husband to Mary. Caring uncle and stepdad. Loyal friend to many. Les will be deeply missed.

Keith Delroy STEPHENS

Sunrise 27th March 1949 - Sunset 5th March 2022 Keith Delroy Stephens came to England as a 16-year-old in 1965 from Jamaica. He attended St Margaret's Secondary School in Whalley Range. He loved reading, maths and sciences.

He achieved his GCSE's and excelled in sports. He loved to box and represented Lancashire where he won numerous boxing trophies and sports awards. He also became county champion in Long Jump and was a promising runner.

When he left school he worked in the electrical field, unexpectedly he contracted meningitis which left him critically ill, he also suffered a stroke during this period, which left him paralysed. He spent many months in hospital and with constant encouragement and support from his late mother Gwendolyn Campbell, Dr Bodey and his wife Carolyn Bodey he was able to be discharged home.

He went through months of rehabilitation and was able to learn to walk again using crutches. After overcoming these issues, he wanted to further his academic education, he attended Manchester Polytechnic and completed his A-Levels, a BA in Youth and Community and a Diploma in Social Sciences.

Along with his studies Keith had a passion in community work. Working with the black community in Moss Side Area. He helped establish the Hideaway Youth Club which is now Manchester's oldest youth club in existence. Not only did he work teenagers he took part in many community courses in both statutory and voluntary sector as was his eagerness to do his best for the community.

He took interest in Education, Health, Probation, Disability, Equality and Diversity Issues. Although his interest was quite broad, he got involved he worked with numerous community groups. Taking up roles ranging from Chairperson, board member and treasurer.

Some of the groups he represented: British Council of organisation of disabled people, Manchester Action Health Care, Family Advice Resource Centre, 8411, Law Centres, Black Disabled people groups, Hulme Health Initiative, Afro-Caribbean Mental Health Project, Manchester Disability Forum, Social Services, Hulme Community Arts Group, Asian Support Group, Coalition of Disabled people, Manchester Sickle Cell Centre, Moss Side IT Group, Carnival group. Amani Youth Centre, Job Link, Nia Centre, Unison trade union, Labour and Louise Da-Cocodia Educational Trust.

As Keith was registered disabled, he championed disability rights, he saw that the disabled community were excluded from participating fully in society. He represented local disability groups to ensure their voices were heard and represented.

Most notably he worked as a disability officer for Manchester City Council (MCC), retiring as a Human Resource Officer. Keith not only took on disability issues in the community within the MCC umbrella but also nationally taking up a role as a Shop Steward for Unison. He later became a chair for the union attending multiple annual unison conference across the UK.

Keiths interests were very varied he loved reading, photography and writing poetry with many of poems and being published. He loved watching all sports especially boxing and athletics. Meeting his idol, Mohammed Ali.

Keith attended Trinity Community Baptist/URC where he not only contributed in the services but also served on their committee. Due to Keiths devotion to work in the community was awarded many awards.

He received Manchester City Council Corporate Services Healthy Manchester Award 2006 and the Manchester BME Network Hidden Gem Award for services to the BME community and his work in the field of equality and diversity. Keith had tirelessly strived to fight racism, discrimination and prejudice in the workforce and the wider community.

He lived in Crumpsall with his wife Pat (nee Berkley), son Cesaire, daughter-in-law Maja and stepson Marvyn. He was blessed to have the opportunity to play with his 2-year-old granddaughter Ramiyah and witness his two grandsons Akeem and Kashif mature. He touched so many lives and will be greatly missed.

Harry TUPLING

Harry passed away peacefully on 2/8/2022 at the age of 86 leaving behind his wife Brenda, son Paul, daughter Wendy and all his devoted family. The Funeral will be held on Monday 22.08.2022 at 12:20 at Peel Green Crematorium - All welcome.

Roland WAGSTAFF

Roland passed away peacefully at home on 11th July 2022 aged 88. Roland, dearly beloved husband to his late wife Margaret and cherished dad to Terry, Jill and Steven.

Father-in-law to Mike and Vicky and devoted grandad to Emma. A true friend and a gentleman. Always in our thoughts, forever in our hearts.

Roy (Roy Wiggy) WIGGLESWORTH

Of Didsbury and Chorlton. Peacefully on 6th August 2022 aged 88. Much loved husband of the late Betty, beloved son of the late George and Joan Wigglesworth and special elder brother of the late John.

A wonderful and loving dad to his four daughters, Lynn, Lesley, Debbie and Karen and respected Father-in-Law of Dave and Paul. He leaves treasured, happy memories for his Grandchildren, Oliver and Angela, Alex and Carla, William, Sam, Louis, Anna, Connie and their partners and for his Great Grandchildren, Lola, Theo, Joseph, Otto and Jack.

Roy was a cherished Uncle, Cousin and friend to many especially his life long friend Jack Bamber. The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to Anthony Foster, to Dad's neighbours and to Louise for their help and kindness over the years, to all the GPs at Didsbury Medical Centre, to Tina Foley (his MacMillan Nurse), the team at St Ann's Hospice and to his carers from Grace 24.
