Death in Paradise’s Kris Marshall wants all four detectives to join forces in crossover episode

Death in Paradise star Kris Marshall has shared how he is keen to see a crossover between all four of the show’s detectives. The actor, 49, will return to his role of DI Humphrey Goodman in a new BBC spin-off show Beyond Paradise. You can find everything you need to know about that, here.

Kris first played Humphrey in 2014, taking over from Ben Miller - Death in Paradise’s original detective, DI Richard Poole. After leaving the show, Kris was replaced by Ardal O’Hanlon, who played DI Jack Mooney.

Death in Paradise’s current detective is DI Neville Parker, played by Royle Family actor Ralf Little. Chatting ahead of the release of Beyond Paradise, Kris said how he was keen to work with the three other actors.

When asked about the possibility of returning to Death in Paradise by Digital Spy, Kris said: "I would say there's always a possibility of something like that!" His character left the show in 2017 when he returned to London to be with love interest, Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton).

Kris then added: "I'd love to bring them all back, really, for different reasons! I had such a wonderful time. I think it'd be awesome to have all four detectives in one show or one episode together, as a meta thing where their worlds collide."

The actor’s proposed spin-off could be quite tricky, though. Ben Miller’s character, Richard Poole, was killed off at the start of series three. However, he did return to Saint Marie as a ghost last year, so anything is possible.

Spin-off series Beyond Paradise starts on Friday, February 24. The new show will see Humphrey and fiancee Martha living in Shipton Abbott, Martha’s hometown near the beautiful Devonshire coast.

A synopsis for the new show reads: "A new adventure awaits as we find them arriving in Shipton Abbott, Martha’s hometown near the beautiful Devonshire coast, having left London. As they embark on their new life whilst temporarily living with Martha’s mum Anne Lloyd, the couple are quickly thrown in at the deep end as Martha sets out to pursue her dream of running her own restaurant and Humphrey joins the local police force.

"Quickly making an impression on the somewhat eclectic team; DS Esther Williams, PC Kelby Hartford and Margo Martins, Humphrey sets out to help crack a host of baffling cases, with the Shipton Abbott squad witnessing a whole new approach to police work…

"Each week the team will face a new crime with a unique puzzle at its heart. The not-so-sleepy town of Shipton Abbott will be rocked by an entire family disappearing without a trace, a woman claiming she was attacked by a suspect from the seventeenth century, the robbery of a highly prized painting, a body bizarrely discovered in a crop circle and a serial arsonist with a seeming distaste for local businesses."

Beyond Paradise begins on BBC One on Friday, February 24 at 8pm. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
