Dean Lewis has spoken publicly for the first time since parting ways with Universal Music amid allegations of inappropriate behaviour by multiple women. The ARIA Award-winning singer-songwriter found himself in the middle of a social media storm late last year, which saw his ARIA and TikTok award nominations withdrawn.
He issued a seven-slide apology on Instagram in October saying he planned to start therapy and take responsibility for his actions — but denied anything happened without consent. He subsequently withdrew himself from the public eye until January, when he embarked on the US leg of his tour, which he had initially postponed due to a vocal haemorrhage.

Dean Lewis reveals rehab stint
During his first show in Denver, Colorado, last week, the “Be Alright” singer spoke about his struggles and revealed that he had recently been treated in an inpatient facility.
“I haven’t really talked about this, but the last three months of my life have pretty much been the worst of my life,” he said on stage, according to The Daily Telegraph.
“I went into a rehab intensive therapy thing for three weeks … [I] made a lot of mistakes and I own them and learned a lot in this place.”
Lewis also debuted a new song at the show, reportedly called “I Am Getting Well”, which included the lyrics: “I break everything that is good, ‘cause I cannot see the good inside. Trust me, if I could, I would change the chemicals inside my head.”
His North American tour, titled The Epilogue World Tour, is set to continue into February when he plays shows across Canada.
PEDESTRIAN.TV recently published an independent investigation into the allegations against Lewis and spoke with several women about their experiences with the musician.
Dean Lewis and Universal Music part ways
Lewis and Universal Music Group confirmed earlier this month that they had ended their decade-long partnership, although they provided no context or reasoning.
“We can confirm that Dean Lewis is no longer signed to Universal Music Australia or any Universal Music Group label,” a Universal Music Australia (UMA) spokesperson told Rolling Stone AU/NZ. A separate statement from Lewis reads: “UMA and I have parted ways. I am no longer signed to Universal Music Australia.”
A spokesperson for Lewis told the publication that although he has no immediate plans to engage with other music labels, he is “excited” to release new music this year as an independent artist.
Lewis was originally signed with Universal Music Group’s imprint, Island Records, but moved to the main label, UMA, last year following an alleged breakdown in his business relationship with Island Records’ Australian boss, Nicole Richards, according to The Daily Telegraph.
The publication reported that the pair had previously had a strong relationship, and he had even gifted her an expensive Louis Vuitton handbag for helping him achieve international success.
Multiple sources told the publication that the relationship had become “toxic” and had ultimately deteriorated by May last year. Lewis and UMA were reportedly in the process of negotiating a new contract worth several million dollars before parting ways.
