Emmerdale fans may have to soon say goodbye to a show favourite as he’s likely to join a major BBC drama revival.
We’ve previously reported Emmerdale star Dean Andrews’ desire to rejoin Life On Mars. Dean, from Rotherham, known to millions as Will Taylor in Emmerdale, played copper Ray Carling in Life On Mars.
For those who need their memories jogging, Life On Mars and the follow-on series Ashes to Ashes, followed the iconic DIC Gene Hunt, played by Philip Glenister, and his team of police. The shows were set in the 1970s and 1980s.

Ashes To Ashes concluded in 2010 and there’s rumours its predecessor Life On Mars is likely to return. Both shows pay a nod to David Bowie with their names and the rumoured ‘Lazarus’ reunion project does likewise.
Series creators Matthew Graham and collaborator Ashley Pharoah have confirmed they have penned a pilot for the series while acting star John Simm has given a few clues about what fans can expect.
“I’m not allowed to say much but it’s the same characters,” he said, as reported by The Big Issue. “They’re writing the pilot and apparently, it has been picked up so me and (co-star) Phil plus (writers) Ashley Pharoah and Matthew Graham are going to meet up and have a chat.
“The idea is really good – there’s a lot of travelling in time and car chases. So, I think it is happening, fingers crossed. But in this business, you never know.”
Confirmation of all the former Life On Mars and Ashes to Ashes characters being included in plans means the producers will likely come calling for Dean Andrews. And, as we’ve previously reported, Dean would be keen to link up with his former co-stars.
"It seems to be something that is still ongoing. And you know, if I was a betting man, I might put a couple of quid on it,” said Dean, who plays Will Taylor in Emmerdale. "I’ve just got to try and beg Emmerdale.”
