Dealer found with £400 of crack cocaine stuffed up his bum

A drug dealer stored more than £400 worth of crack cocaine up his bum which was discovered by police when he was searched. His mobile phone was seized and showed he had been dealing drugs.

Darren Deacon, 32, was stopped by police in Cardiff around 6.40pm on February 20, 2021, in a blue Renault Megane in which he was the passenger. As two officers approached the defendant had his hands between his legs, was holding a mobile phone, and there was a strong smell of cannabis coming from the car in Crown Way, Cathays.

A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court heard Deacon admitted to having cannabis and pointed to his seat. Police found a grip seal bag containing 0.45g of cannabis worth £5. A Nokia phone and an Apple iPhone were also seized and the defendant was taken to custody.

A further search was carried out and 32 white cling film wraps fell from the defendant's buttocks. They were found to contain 6.25g of crack cocaine with a purity of 85% and a street value of £420.

Deacon's home was also searched and in a chest of drawers was found digital scales and empty grip seal bags. The phone's were examined and one of them and messages dating back to 2020,claiming he had been "kicked out" after crack had been found. He said: "I did it – I want nice things and it's the only way I can make money." He told another customer he doesn't sell speed "but everything else".

During his interview with police, the defendant, of HMP Parc, denied dealing cocaine and claimed the wraps were for his own use and said he took cannabis to help anxiety. He later pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and possession of Class B drugs. The court heard Deacon was currently serving a sentence of 40 months imprisonment from August last year after he was caught dealing 25 wraps of cocaine weighing 85.87g.

In mitigation Ross McQuillan-Johnson said his client should have been dealt with for these matters when he was sentenced in August and described the delay in the case as "nothing short of abysmal". He said the defendant had these proceedings hanging over his head and wanted to start a new life and get a job when he was released from prison.

Sentencing, Recorder Greg Bull KC said: "Drugs cause destruction of lives and has had an impact on your own life because you became addicted and had to sell to feed your own habit." He sentenced Deacon to 12 months imprisonment, to be served consecutively to his current sentence.
