'Deadpool And Wolverine' makes MCU history; becomes first film to get R-rating

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman's 'Deadpool & Wolverine' has already created history in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by becoming the first film to receive an R-rating.

While this comes as no surprise, following the promises made by Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, this film will also be unlike any other Deadpool film we have seen so far. According to the film's certification, the movie, has been officially rated R for "strong bloody violence and language throughout, gore and sexual references. "

It must be noted that while both Deadpool and Deadpool 2 were R-rated, Deadpool & Wolverine breaks new ground with the inclusion of "gore," hinting that the film will be significantly bloodier than its prequels.

Besides the movie rating, the hilarious and explicit 'Silence Your Phones' theatre spot was released online this week.

Feige has consistently addressed the film's adult rating during April's CinemaCon, where he praised the movie as "f***ing awesome." Director Shawn Levy has also emphasized that the film earned its R-rating, revealing that Marvel Studios imposed no creative restrictions and shared with Fandango, "They have trusted us and allowed us to do the version of Deadpool & Wolverine that we feel is best."

The film's plot centres on Deadpool and Logan becoming unlikely allies to confront a multiversal threat posed by Cassandra Nova, played by Emma Corrin. The multiverse theme suggests the potential for numerous major cameos, including a possible appearance by pop star Taylor Swift.

Deadpool & Wolverine is set to hit theatres on July 26, 2024.
