On Saturday, a tragic incident occurred in a displacement camp in west Gaza City, where at least 22 people lost their lives in a strike that hit a makeshift mosque. According to the head of the emergency room at Al-Ahli Hospital, 20 men were killed in the strike, with two more men succumbing to their injuries on Sunday.
The bombing took place during the noon prayer, as reported by Gaza’s Civil Defense spokesman, Mahmoud Basal. The injuries sustained were severe, with many individuals requiring amputation operations. Video footage from the scene depicted a grim reality, with bodies scattered on prayer mats and multiple individuals missing limbs.
The UN Human Rights Office also addressed the incident, stating that the Israel Defense Forces reportedly struck a makeshift mosque inside Ash Al Shati’ Refugee Camp. The strike occurred shortly after the noon prayer, catching many people inside or near the mosque off guard.
As of now, the IDF has not provided any comments on the incident. There were no prior warnings issued for the attacks, as confirmed by the UN OHCHR. The strike on the displacement camp in southern Gaza, which Israel claimed targeted a Hamas military chief allegedly involved in previous attacks, also raised concerns.
