Deadly Landslide Buries Papua New Guinea Village, 700 Feared Dead

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape speaks during a Resources and Energy Investment conference in Sydney

Breaking news from northern Papua New Guinea reveals a deadly landslide that has tragically buried a remote village, leaving nearly 700 people feared dead. Over 1000 individuals have been displaced from their homes, with ongoing extreme risks due to falling rocks and soil from a nearby hill. Efforts are underway to recover bodies trapped under the debris and rubble.

In a separate incident, Hamas has claimed responsibility for launching rockets towards Tel Aviv and central Israel. This marks the first such attack since January, with eight rockets fired from Rafa in southern Gaza. Fortunately, most projectiles were intercepted, but tensions remain high as Israel has threatened a potential assault if hostages held in Gaza are not released.
