Rescue efforts have been underway, with 1,053 individuals already saved and 17 people sustaining injuries. The Nepal Police have mobilized all available personnel to assist in the rescue operations.
The government had issued flood warnings across the country in anticipation of the torrential rainfall. As a precautionary measure, night travel for buses on highways has been prohibited, and the public has been advised to limit road travel. Security forces are on high alert to respond to the crisis.
Reports indicate that other regions of Nepal have also been affected by the flooding, with authorities still assessing the extent of the damage. Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak emphasized that the primary focus is on rescuing those in distress and providing aid to the affected population.
In Kathmandu, many areas have been submerged by overflowing rivers, forcing residents to seek refuge on higher floors. A significant portion of the southern part of the city is underwater, prompting the deployment of an army helicopter to evacuate individuals stranded in their homes.
The flooding has caused widespread power outages and disrupted internet connectivity in most parts of Kathmandu. Additionally, there have been reports of landslides and flooding in various other areas of the country.
The onset of the monsoon season in June has brought heavy rainfall, a common occurrence in Nepal during this period.
