'Deadlock' Patch Brings New Changes; Bebop Nerfs, Non-Game Tweaks, Queue Adjustments

Deadlock's recent series of patches introduced a variety of changes to the game, most notably nerfs to the character Bebop.

The minor update for Valve's early-stage shooter focused on bringing down Bebop's power a little bit. This particular character has been considered to be a tad too strong over the past few days.

Deadlock Patch

The latest patch includes eight changes, six of which are focused on Bebop and are nerfs to the character. In general, Bebop's ultimate has been significantly nerfed, with changes to cooldown, damage, and slow.

The character's Hyper Beam cooldown has been increased by 13 seconds. Furthermore, its duration at level one has been reduced by eight seconds. This means that the total uptime for the skill is now much shorter.

Additionally, the skill's slow was decreased by 10% and its damage per second was reduced by 15. All of these changes mean that Bebop's Ultimate is no longer the powerhouse that it used to be, according to Forbes,

The latest nerfs were done because the previous update to Bebop gave him buffs that were a little bit too much. This was done after he was seen underperforming in Deadlock for quite a while.

The changes made him so strong that players would most likely see him being used in almost every single match. Elsewhere, the latest patch also introduced a minor buff to McGinnis' Medicinal Specter.

Valve also introduced some new non-game features to Deadlock in the last week that aim to make players' gaming experience smoother. The first major update is a low-priority queue. This is a secondary queue where players are less likely to match, said PCGamer.

A Variety of Updates

Players can be placed in this queue if they repeatedly abandon games or are found to have had bad behavior. In order to get back to the regular queue, they will have to complete a certain number of full games.

Furthermore, you can now lose access to certain in-game capabilities as punishments, such as matchmaking and chat features. This is certainly a step in the right direction for Valve in fighting against abusive players.

Another change that the studio did with Deadlock affected the new game's minimap. A patch that was rolled out on Sept. 12, 2024, redesigned the minimap. The new look is a little bit cleaner but some players noted that it had much less detail now.

The new minimap's low contrast makes it more difficult for players to make out the layout. It also doesn't show any additional pathways through or between buildings, according to PCGamesN.
