A dog walker made an awful discovery on a Dublin beach yesterday that left him shocked and upset.
Author Garvan Grant found a dead dolphin stranded on Shelly Banks beside Sandymount Strand.
The grim discovery stopped Garvan and his dog, Milo, in their tracks as they came across the carcass which they thought was an art piece at first.

He told Dublin Live: "It looked like art at first. But I'm pretty sure it was real. Though perhaps someone had straightened him up in that position."
Garvan added he made the grim discovery yesterday afternoon at 4.30pm near the two towers on the walk down to the Great South Wall.
The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group recorded a sighting of a stranded "common dolphin" on Tuesday.
After Garvan posted the picture on social media, he received a flood of replies from people empathising with his experience.
One user said: "This really upset me recently."
Another simply said: "Dolphins are beautiful, anyone with a heart would be affected by that. They are such amazing, intelligent beings... he/she must have got caught as the tide went out.. I wonder what species of dolphin it is."
A third said: "So sad…."
