NEW DELHI: Delhi government's think tank DDC on Monday signed an agreement with EPIC Electronics Product Foundation to develop and implement plan for 'Electronic City' announced in the annual budget presented last month in the Assembly. The initiative aims to attract investment and jobs associated with the design, manufacturing, sale and after-sales services of electronic equipment.
Announcing the plan for Electronics City in Delhi in the budget, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia had said it will create 80,000 job opportunities in five years.
The partnership aims to develop a healthy, competitive electronics design-manufacture-service market in Delhi, Dialogue and Development Commission (DDC) vice chairman Jasmine Shah said.
"The Delhi Electronics City initiative will help boost design, manufacture, sales and service of electronics to feed domestic as well as global demand by partnering with national and international expert industry organisations," he said.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the DDC and EPIC Electronics Product Foundation. Besides Shah, EPIC chairman Ajai Chowdhry were present on the occasion.
This collaboration will go a long way in leading Delhi towards a future with green, clean and sustainable industries and achieving Kejriwal government's ambitious vision of a modern, equitable and sustainable Delhi, Shah said.
The DDC will endeavour to encourage foreign and domestic entities in the electronics industry to set up research, design, manufacturing and service centres through infrastructure and resources including promotions and incentives wherever necessary, he said.
Its partner EPIC will assist DDC to access educational, human and other relevant resources and help leverage related government schemes and programs to cultivate Delhi into an electronics design-sale-purchase hub, Shah stated.
As the first step, the Delhi government will invite anchor units to set up base at Delhi's upcoming Electronics City on an 81-acre plug-and-play infrastructure centre. EPIC guided by DDC will work closely with multiple partner channels like the domestic and international electronics champions, anchor units and other industry experts, he said.
EPIC chairperson Ajai Chowdhry said, "We are excited to work with DDC Delhi and Delhi Skill Development organisations to help foster the design and manufacturing of electronics in Delhi."
The collaboration will help boost employment opportunities, give an impetus to electronics manufacturing and attract IT companies to Delhi, he added.
