Day trips and one night stays abroad flying from Bristol Airport

If you ever get bored of what Bristol has to offer, or you fancy a spontaneous shopping spree in Paris, say, then you may have contemplated the logistics of spending a day or two abroad. Not a fully fledged holiday, or even necessarily a weekend break away, but a day trip or one night stay somewhere a bit more exotic.

Don't get us wrong, we're not saying these things are that easy to organise or even necessarily as spontaneous as in the movies - you'd need an in-date passport at least - but it's fun to imagine waking up and deciding you're going to head to Italy for a pizza, just like this man decided to do.

Fortunately, Bristol Airport have a fair few options when it comes to same day flights or one night stays. Here are some we found while browsing...

Same day flights - perfect(ish) for a day trip

If you're someone who loves a bit of spontaneity, or has a rather movie-like mind when it comes to life, then a day trip abroad might be right up your street. A couple of things to remember though, is that your day may be more than rushed - you have to get to airports far earlier than your flight time, there's a chance your flight might be delayed or cancelled and all in all, if this happens you'd be left with very little of your day to explore.

So, unless you have a goal in mind (like getting pizza and coming straight home) you may want to consider booking a place to stay overnight, at least. Just think of how many pizzas you could dine on - and how many sights you'd get to see - then.

We took this coming Friday (February 10) as an example date and hunted around for some ideas, using Skyscanner and imagining we were looking for a spontaneous trip to sample some fancy cuisine abroad, ourselves. Some of the destinations you can fly to from Bristol and back in the same day on this date include:

Edinburgh - Flying with easyJet, leaving at 7am and arriving in Edinburgh at 8:15am, with a flight back leaving at 8:55pm and arriving in Bristol at 10:10pm. It would cost you around £204.

Paris - Flying with easyJet, leaving at 7am and arriving in Paris at 9:25am local time, with a flight back leaving at 6:10pm and arriving in Bristol at 6:30pm local time. It would cost you around £212.

One night stays - perfect for more exploring and, well, breakfast!

The following destinations came up during our search for flights arriving on Friday, February 10 and leaving the next day (Saturday, February 11), with flights costing between £71 and £289 and accommodation as low as £6 (according to Skyscanner at time of writing). Flights also varied between early morning departures and arrivals for quick visits and even an early morning flight from Bristol on the Friday and a late evening flight home on the Saturday.

This means you get the most out of your time, so you can cram in as much food, drink and exploring as possible. Here are the destinations that fit the criteria:

  • Dublin
  • Belfast
  • Alicante
  • Malaga
  • Barcelona
  • Geneva
  • Reykjavik
  • Faro
  • Paris
  • Lyon
  • Krakow
