Dawn French left fans in hysterics after sharing a hilarious post to "confirm" her attendance at King Charles III 's proclamation event on Saturday (September 10).
Following on from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's death on Thursday, her son assumed the throne. He was officially proclaimed King at the Accession ceremony in central London this afternoon.
The event – which was televised for the first time in history – took place at St James’s Palace, with former prime ministers Boris Johnson, Theresa May, David Cameron and Gordon Brown among those in attendance.
As people across the nation tuned in to mourn the late Queen and watch the solemn occasion, Dawn took to social media to post a snap of a member from the procession.
Taking to Twitter and Instagram, the comedian, 64, tried to convince her fans it was her and said: " Been quite busy this morning…"
Dawn's followers agreed that the likeness between Dawn and her doppelgänger was uncanny, with the comment seemingly lightening the mood amid this period of mourning.
One person commented: "Dawn I will be laughing about this forever."
"Multi tasking at its finest. Things to do, wash pots, write comedy, proclaim the king," added a second.
A third fan wrote: "I thought the same, I love you Dawn French, ever since girls on top days," while another said: "Looking great Dawn. Such a momentous day," with a laughing face emoji.
King Charles III made a speech at his proclamation, where he said: "My lords, ladies, and gentlemen. It is my most sorrowful duty to announce to you the death of my beloved mother, the Queen.
"I know how deeply you, the entire nation – and I think I may say the whole world – sympathise with me in the irreparable loss we have all suffered.
"It is the greatest consolation to me to know of the sympathy expressed by so many to my sister and brothers and that such overwhelming affection and support should be extended to our whole family in our loss."
