Will Davison has kicked off Friday's Supercars opening practice session at the Gold Coast 500 with the fastest lap time across the 2.9km street circuit.
Davison pipped championship leader and four-time Gold Coast winner Shane van Gisbergen after the chequered flag by one one hundredths of a second for a 1:11.221 lap time.
It was this year's regular trio who went fastest in Friday's first session as Cam Waters rounded out the top three on a glorious and sunny day on the Gold Coast.
Friday's 30-minute opening practice session marked the first time Supercars drivers entered the Surfers Paradise circuit since 2019, with the 2020 and 2021 legs cancelled due to the pandemic.
It is the 19th time a championship round has taken place at Surfers Paradise and will be the first ever completed by solo drivers.
Previously the event has been a dual-driver role over two 300km races.
New Zealander van Gisbergen won the last dual-driver race on the Gold Coast alongside his recent Bathurst 1000 winner Garth Tander in 2019.
Earlier, Brad Jones Racing won the $20,000 pit stop challenge for the fourth consecutive year.
Friday's second practice session begins at 3.15 (AEST).
