Davina McCall reveals raising menopause awareness has given her new purpose

Davina McCall has revealed that raising menopause awareness has given her purpose at her stage of life.

The television presenter spoke candidly last year about her own menopause journey and hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in the Channel 4 documentary 'Davina McCall: Sex, Myths And The Menopause'.

After it received a positive reviews from the public, the broadcaster announced that a follow-up documentary was in the pipeline. 'Davina McCall: Sex, Mind And The Menopause' will air on Monday (May 2).

Davina, who has been outspoken in the past about the lack of medical knowledge on the subject, is the cover star of the June 2022 edition of Good Housekeeping magazine.

She told the publication: "I sort of fell into it by accident because I wanted to learn more about the menopause for myself and, as I did, I thought, 'How is it that all women don’t know these things, when 51% of the population is female?'

"What's lovely is that being able to use my platform to spread the word has given me purpose at this stage in my life."

The 54-year-old has previously gone on record as saying that when she became perimenopausal at work, she did not want to talk to anyone about it.

Davina revealed that whilst presenting the short-lived ITV talent show Stepping Out in 2013 she began to forget the names of contestants and also had problems with reading the autocue as she became perimenopausal.

After a producer checked up on her she simply cried and asked herself what was happening.

In October last year she joined other famous names such as Penny Lancaster and Mariella Frostrup at a rally in Parliament Square, where the crowd celebrated as the Government pledged greater menopause support and reduction in the costs of HRT.

Further progress came on Sunday, meanwhile, as Health Secretary Sajid Javid announced that he intends to appoint an HRT tsar amid a shortage of medication which has left women desperate.

The news came at a time that many women are reportedly sharing their prescriptions, with some said to be made suicidal by the debilitating menopause symptoms they suffer without the medication.

The full interview with Davina McCall will be available in the June 2022 issue of Good Housekeeping, on sale on April 28.
