Davina McCall recalls 'f****d up' relationship with her mum as she pays tribute to step-mum

Davina McCall has admitted she had a "messy, f****d up" relationship with her birth mum and said her stepmother was her "rock" while growing up.

The 55-year-old TV presenter took to Instagram to share a special Mother's Day post to celebrate her stepmother Gaby McCall and thank her for her "unwavering love".

Davina shared a sweet snap of Gaby and her late father Andrew McCall as the pair cosied up to each other during a seaside outing.

In the caption, Davina said while her relationship with her birth mum Florence Kock was full of "loathing", she still had "loving" memories from their time together.

"Happy Mother’s Day to my step mum Gaby," Davina wrote.

"I say she’s my step mum because amazing mother figures come in many forms. I had a crazy, funny, messy, f****d up, loving, loathing relationship with my birth mother (if u relate follow @myhorridparent) and Gaby was my rock.

"She and my granny kept me sane. And I am so grateful to both of them for their unwavering love x."

She added: "She's also my children's "Gabba" and they absolutely ADORE her thank you Mumma I love you so much.

"Also big shout out to anyone trying … it’s a f***ing nightmare today for you."

Davina finished her post writing: "These celebratory days are always a bit odd aren't they?

The presenter acknowledged that a lot of people find Mother's Day tough (Youtube)

"Nice to celebrate/remember/love people on their allotted special days in the year (mums, dads, valentines) but sometime it can also feel like immense pressure.."

Davina's fans thanked her for her honesty, with one person commenting: "Thank you, nice to hear the alternatives today.

"Lost my Mam November, but she was never really capable of loving me, so hearing all the best mum in the world messages draws up such mixed feelings of envy, loss, sadness etc. xx thank you for recognising."

Another wrote: "That made me tear up...thank you for understanding lost my lovely Mum."

"I totally get this," a third fan agreed.
