Davie Provan admits he's surprised Celtic won't train on Bodo/Glimt's plastic pitch ahead of their Europa Conference League showdown.
Parkhead boss Ange Postecoglou played down the decision to skip a session at the Aspmyra Stadion - insisting there's little to be gained when his team have already played on artificial surfaces in the Premiership and Scottish Cup this season.
Heavy weather conditions are expected for Thursday's clash in the Arctic Circle, with Celtic trailing 3-1 from a surprise home defeat in the first leg.
Pundit and former Parkhead star Provan says he thought Postecoglou would take an opportunity to get used to the harsh environment.
He said on Go Radio: "I'm a little bit surprised at that. Players always like to get a feel for the environment the night before the game.
"It's not just a tradition, I think it's good to get a look at the pitch, a feel for it, the dimensions and the whole environment.
"It surprises me that he's turned down the chance to do that.
"The conditions can affect the synthetic surfaces every bit as much as they can affect grass, that makes it even more surprising for me that Celtic aren't taking the opportunity to have a session on it.
"When I played, I always wanted to have a look at the pitch the night before the game and as a wide player you want to have a look at the dimension of the pitch and see how wide it is.
"If they bring the touchline in a couple of yards it makes a hell of a difference if you're a wide player.
"So, yeah, I'm surprised but the proof of the pudding will be Thursday night and we'll see if Celtic can overturn it."
Provan did, however, confess to getting it badly wrong last week after he predicted Celtic would blow Bodo away to leave the second leg as a mere formality.
Kjetil Knutsen's side arrived in Glasgow still in their domestic pre-season preparations but turned in an assured and clinical display to take control of the tie.
And Provan admitted: "I've got to say, I've got to put my hands up because I said last week that Celtic wouldn't just win the first leg, they would win the tie last week.
"Such was the lack of fitness with the Norwegian side, I thought Celtic would batter them.
"That, for me, was a huge shock.
"I do think Celtic will score, I just worry about the back door with the way they're defending right now.
"And, again, there was more evidence of that against Dundee at the weekend. They're not right at the back."
