David Wilkie’s son quits his job to target his late father’s world record

  • Adam Wilkie has left his desk job to attempt to match the world record swimming time set by his late father, British Olympic great David Wilkie.
  • His father, who passed away in 2024, achieved a 200m breaststroke world record of 2 minutes 15.11 seconds to win gold at the 1976 Montreal Games.
  • Adam, 33, has given himself one year to emulate this feat, 50 years after his father's achievement, as a tribute and for charity.
  • Despite not being an elite swimmer, he will train full-time with a professional coach and utilise Aquatics GB facilities.
  • Wilkie aims to raise money for SportsAid through his challenge, which will begin with him setting an initial time at the Aquatics GB Swimming Championships this weekend.
