President-elect Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he has selected David Warrington to serve as his White House counsel, replacing Bill McGinley who will now be serving as counsel to the Department of Government Efficiency.

The decision to switch counsel positions was viewed by some within Trump's inner circle as a strategic move to remove McGinley, who Trump was not as familiar with, from the key role. McGinley had initially been chosen for the position after Boris Epshteyn, a figure recently under scrutiny for financial gain allegations, advocated for him and helped secure the appointment.

Epshteyn, who had been involved in appointing various legal positions within the administration, played a significant role in McGinley's initial selection. However, with the recent internal investigation into Epshteyn's financial dealings, the dynamics within the administration seem to be shifting.
