David Walliam's dog stole the limelight during the Britain's Got Talent judge's appearance on BBC's The One Show on Thursday night. The 50-year-old author and comedian was on the show to talk about the return of ITV's talent show and his latest children's book 'The Worlds Worst Pets' but Twitter went into meltdown over his "adorable" dog Ernie, who completely outshone his owner.
The TV judge wasn't the centre of attention when he appeared on The One Show on Thursday, May 5. David was being interviewed by hosts Alex Scott and Ronan Keating and was joined on the green sofa by singer Jack Savoretti, but it was another very special guest, who quickly distracted viewers.
Sitting alongside David was one of his border terriers, Ernie. During the start of his appearance on the BBC show, David's pet pooch could be seen fast asleep next to him on the sofa and later when he was talking about his latest book, Ernie could be seen relaxing like a baby across his lap and enjoying a belly rub from his owner.
David, who has now written over 30 books, said the book wasn't inspired by his pets because his two border terriers Bert and Ernie are "really well behaved". But he did reveal that they do make a cameo appearance in the book.
Viewers were quick to take to Twitter to say how cute the star's dog was. "@BBCTheOneShow @davidwalliams dog is absolutely adorable," Carole tweeted: "So relaxed and well behaved #dogs #dogsoftwitter #TheOneShow". Viewer Conor added: "David Walliams’ dog is baby #theoneshow". Laura added: "The way David is holding his dog is adorable".
"Cannot get over David's dog just chilling haha #theoneshow" Sue posted whilst Lucinda said: "David William’s Dog is the real star of The One Show tonight. #theOneShow". Another The One Show viewer, Hannah, added: "David Walliams proving I’m not the only one who cradles the dog like a baby …. #TheOneShow".
It's not the first time Ernie has outshone his owner on live TV. In November 2021, David was accompanied by Ernie during his appearance on ITV's Lorraine and it wasn't long before presenter Lorraine Kelly was besotted and the conversation's focus turned to the cute pup, as she also has a border terrier named Angus.
The One Show airs weekdays on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 7pm.
