David Walliams' cheeky son who helps him write stories - but doesn't read them

Ah, David Walliams. Comedian, author and all-round national treasure.

He’s been on the nation's radar for many years, and whether you love him or not, there’s no denying he’s had a huge impact on all things TV and books.

From Little Britain, to Britain's Got Talent and his Gangsta Granny books, he’s really done a lot throughout his career.

Did you know, though, that David Walliams has a nine-year-old son?

Child of Lara Stone and David, Alfred Walliams was born in 2013, and the pair keep him out of the spotlight as much as possible to allow him to be brought up without drama.

Sadly, supermodel Lara and David split up in October 2015 after they drifted apart.

The Britain's Got Talent star and ex-wife Lara even went as far to conceal their son's face on any images of him shared on social media.

What we do know about him is that he doesn’t care much about his dad’s fame yet.

When speaking about his books in 2020 with Lorraine Kelly, David revealed that he often tests new writing material on Alfred, but he isn’t that ‘interested’ in his books.

Apparently when David asks Alfred whether he’d like to read his books at night time, he says: “No! No!”

David sweetly revealed that they do like to read books together, however, and they take turns with the chapters.

He said: “But we like to read together, he reads a chapter and I read a chapter.

“I don't want him to be in therapy for years to come going, ''My dad made me read all of his books and wouldn't let me read anyone else's!''”

Despite the fact he’s not that interested in reading his dad’s books, he does help his old man’s creative process.

Chatting with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield to promote book Mega Monster, David confessed that he has his son to partly thank for his huge success in the world of children's fiction.

"Yes, Alfred, he has lots of brilliant ideas," he answered This Morning presenter Holly when she quizzed him on how Alfred contributes to his creativity.

"We often talk about things we'd like to read stories about and he said, 'Wouldn't it be great if there was a monster made up of all the different scary monsters in the world and it'd be called the Mega Monster, Dad? That should be the title of your next book!' And I said, 'Okay, yeah that's a great title.'"

"When we go on walks and stuff with the dog we often think about where the story could be set and he says, 'Dad you do the writing of it, the hard bit!'", he continued.

Not missing a trick, David revealed that his son had a cheeky comment to make when he realised his contribution to his father's work, saying: "But recently he said, 'Please can I have 50 per cent of the royalties?'"

Seems like he’s just as quick-witted as his dad then!
