David Ungi pleads not guilty to murdering teenager shot dead after crash

David Ungi has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Vinny Waddington.

The 31-year-old was last month charged in connection with murdering the teenager, seven years after he was shot dead following a crash. The 18-year-old had been the pillion passenger on a motorbike which was struck by an Audi car on Banks Lane in Garston shortly after 8.45pm on July 14 2015.

The rider of the bike, then 21-year-old Francis Humphries, was wounded by the same blast but survived. Two men, Luke Kendrick and Ryan Bate, have already been convicted of Vinny's murder and were jailed for life in 2016.

Ungi appeared before Liverpool Crown Court this morning, Wednesday, via video link to HMP Manchester. He denied the counts of murder, attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm and conspiracy to supply heroin during the hearing.

A trial has been scheduled for April 18 next year. The Honorary Recorder of Liverpool Judge Andrew Menary remanded Ungi into custody ahead of this date.
