David Tennant is once again returning to his most iconic role on Doctor Who next year.
The Bathgate-born actor, who famously played the 10th Doctor from 2005-2010, is returning to the titular role for the Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Special.
The Broadchurch actor appeared on Thursday's instalment of This Morning, alongside Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield, to discuss all things Doctor Who - as well as his new role in ITVX drama Litvinenko.
Co-hosts Holly and Phil were eager to know all about Tennant's return to the BBC show, but also wanted to keep an element of surprise for fans. Phil, 61, dived in and asked: "What was it like for you? The reveal and being back?"
Speaking about his return to the hit BBC sci-fi show, Tennant said: "It was like being handed a very lovely present. It's joyous.
"It really was great fun. It was a very happy, joyous time 15 years ago and returning to that could have been - well who knows? It might have felt awkward, it might have felt difficult. I might not have been able to run as fast but we had a lovely time.
"Russell T Davies is back running the show and it felt like we'd never been away."
As well as discussing his famed role as the Time Lord, Tennant discussed what it's like to portray a key character in modern history on screen as Alexander Litvinenko. He said: "We were all committed to telling this story and this is relatively recent history, like I said it's a tragedy politically, the reverberations of this are still being felt today but principally it's about telling the story of someone who lost their husband and a son who lost their father."
During filming, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that Russia was responsible for poisoning Litvinenko. David said: "It was a big day on set. The reason this happened was because Putin wanted to shut Sasha Litvinenko up and the fact that we're still here telling this story means he failed, he didn't do it and his story lives on."
