Former Manchester City star David Silva has been fined more than €1,000 for grabbing a young woman during a brawl at a music festival in Spain.
The incident took place at the recent Maspalomas Carnival in Gran Canaria and included the Real Sociedad player's brother Fernando Antonio Jimenez Silva and a third individual. The case never reached trial as all defendants admitted their parts in the episode.
The third individual, who is not named by the report, hit a young man with a stone and threatened another individual with a knife, shouting: "Come here and I will cut you."
Spanish media outlet Tiempo de Canarias had access to the court documents and outline how the incident took place during the early hours of the music festival on June 19.
It is detailed how former Spain international star Silva, 'with the intention of undermining the physical integrity of the victim, toughly grabbed her arm to move her away, causing her to fall to the ground.'
The sentencing from judge Francisco Javier Ramirez de Verger Vargas concluded that as a result of Silva's actions, the young woman suffered "post-traumatic cervical pain, contusion on the left elbow, a laceration on the second finger of the left hand, lacerations on both knees and lacerations on both legs."
The sentencing added that the injuries required "a first medical assistance without subsequent medical treatment and eight days of basic personal injury."
Silva accepted the facts and the conclusion of the case, meaning he was fined €1,080 (£945) – a rate of €12 per day for the course of the three months the injuries will take to heal.
This conclusion was reached as the footballer was the "perpetrator responsible for a minor crime of injuries, with subsidiary personal liability in case of non-payment of one day of deprivation of liberty for every two daily instalments not paid," said the judge.
Silva has also been instructed to compensate the young woman with €520 - €280 of that amount due to injuries suffered and the other €240 due to the material damage caused as a result of the incident.
The footballer's brother, Fernando Antonio Jimenez Silva, was adjudged to have hit a young man in the face with his fist and once he (the victim) had fallen to the ground, he continued to hit him in different parts of the body together with other people who could not be identified. Fernando Antonio Jimenez Silva also 'dealt several blows' to another young woman.
The unnamed third individual threw a stone at another young man, which struck him on the head – causing a wound that required surgical intervention. The judge said the defendant then approached another man with a knife and threatened him by saying: "Come here and I will cut you". He was sentenced to eight months in prison for throwing the rock, alongside a fine of three months for the second threat.
David Silva is one of Spain's most successful ever footballers, winning three major international titles with the national team across 125 caps. Currently playing for Real Sociedad, he is best known for his 10-year stint at Manchester City where he won four Premier League titles.
